Da medlemmer fra en ældgammel ninjakult finder en hvid dreng skyllet op på Japans kyst, tror de straks, at de har fundet den store hvide ninja, som profetierne har spået. De tager ham derfor til sig og underviser ham i de hemmelige og mest dødbringende kamptekniker, men som årerne går, indser de dog, at de har taget grueligt fejl af hans evner. Haru, som drengen kaldes, vokser sig nemlig federe år for år og er lige så klodset som en elefant i en glasbutik.

80’ernes teenagersensationer Molly Ringwald (Abefest for viderekomne, The Breakfast Club) og Andrew McCarthy (Kliken fra St. Elmo) fik flotte anmeldelser for deres præstationer i dette hit af en kærlighedsfilm af John Hughes (Ferris Bueller's Day Off).
