Donese ji domů a se svou ženou začne dívku, které rychle roste v neodolatelnou krásku, vychovávat jako vlastní. Tajemná princezna, která je zřejmě nadpozemského původu, uchvacuje každého, s kým se setkává, avšak události se dají do pohybu a ukazuje se, že se dívka musí konfrontovat s trestem za své provinění.

Dvoudílný japonský barevný širokoúhlý film Kwaidan režiséra M. Kobajašiho obsahuje čtyři strašidelné povídky. První dvě povídky Černé vlasy a Sněhový královna jsou uváděny pod názvem Kwaidan Černé vlasy, druhá dvojice Muž bez uší a Šálek pod názvem Kwaidan Muž bez uší Kwaidan patří podobně jako Rašomon, k těm nemnoha filmům japonské produkce, které přibližují západní mentalitě vzdálený duševní svět, aniž ho zkreslují a přílišně zjednodušují. V případě Kwaidanu postavil podobný most mezi námi a starobylým světem japonských bájí anglický spisovatel Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904). Kwaidan je příkladem vynikající stylové jednoty jak v barevné kompozici, tak i ve střihové skladbě a v hereckých projevech.S nenásilnou jednotící myšlenkou obdobou orfeovského motivu a zlými následky násilného narušování světa zemřelých se dobře slučuje to hlavní, co pro západního diváka Kwaidan přináší, totiž zasvěcené, kultivované uvedení do staré a vzdálené kultury, jako se dochovala v lidových bájích.
